Standing Up for Your Child
Throughout your child's school years you will often have to be their voice. Regardless of the situation, as parents you must often stand up for your child's rights. The best and most convincing way to do this is to build a relationship with the educational professionals involved in your child's life. Doing this will promote teamwork and cooperation when difficult situations arise. When it comes to your child only you know them best. Remembering this, trust your instincts. After assessing a situation, approach the other adults involved.
Never go to visit a teacher or principal unannounced. An appointment shows careful thought and it may illicit respect for you ahead of time. Remember to remain calm and do not let your emotions get in the way. Mature conversation leads to problem solving. Keeping your child's best interest in mind is the goal for you and the school. Thus, finding a great solution should not be difficult.
