Reading to your Baby

Reading is a skill we all use our entire lives. So why not start reading to your children right away to increase your child’s interest in books later on? Reading to your children is also a great way to bond and create memories between the two of you. Studies have also shown that reading to your baby helps produce language skills. Like most activities you should consider the age of your child when picking out books for them.

To start, pick books with simple black and white pictures. Your baby's eyes are still developing and these kinds of pictures will be most pleasing. As your baby grows begin choosing books with rhyming words. They will enjoy the rhythm and probably even learn some things at the same time. When your baby is almost a toddler they will want to help you when you read to them. Pick chunky books made of cardboard at this time. These kinds of books will be easier for your child to hold and turn the pages. Whatever your child's age you should bring out a book. Help them start a library when they're babies! It's a sure thing that they will benefit from the time you spend reading to them.
