A Family Show

Produce your own family video or slide show and have a family night at the movies.

Let the children go through old family slides and/or pictures – perhaps of them from birth to present, summer vacations, friends, relatives, places you’ve lived, places you’ve visited. You can help with the selection (to insure they don’t choose any of you in your bathing suit.)

If you are preparing a video, have the children draw pictures of family members of special events they remember; or have them dress up as different family members and tell a funny story.

Together, write a script to go with the slides or pictures or acting. Let the children do as much of the creative thinking and writing as possible. Have a “sample” showing when you’ve completed your work.

Later that evening, or another day, have a showing for the family or perhaps the children’s friends. Let the children work the slide projector or VCR and read the script. They will have a good feeling of accomplishment as they create, produce, and direct their own “family movie.”

If time permits and you have patience left, make cookies together to serve during the slide show. Good, nutritious, and made without a mixer are Oatmeal Crispies.
