The Big Book of Family Fun
By Claudia Arp & Linda Dillow

Fun in the Sun
An Outing for Two

Children love going out someplace special, just with you. Consider the following:

  School Shopping

Before school starts, plan a back-to-school shopping trip for school supplies, new clothes, or whatever is needed! Have lunch together and talk about the school year ahead.

  Walking and Talking

Walking is a lost art but can be lots of fun. Try parking the car several blocks from a special ice-cream ship or restaurant and walk to it to order a big cone for the child (Mom gets a small one). Then walk back to the car. Of course, if you live near enough, you may not have to use a car at all.

  A Bike Hike

Ride bikes on a local biking path of in you neighborhood. Take along a snack. Talk and enjoy the lovely view. Then ride home.

  Eating Out

Go wherever your child chooses for lunch. For small children, fast foods are usually the first choice. It gets scary when they’re older and begin to choose more expensive places!

  Shopping for Others

Together, shop for a gift or a birthday card, and include time for a treat or a short talk.
