Why do we sing lullabies?
Why do we sing lullabies to our babies? Most of us sing to quiet and soothe them. What makes a lullaby so comforting? The rhythm! The rhythm of a lullaby is often patterned after the beating of our hearts. Babies spend the first nine months of their lives listening to the rhythm of their mother's hearts from inside the womb. This is their first lullaby. Also, many mothers sing to their babies before they're born. Studies have recently shown than unborn babies can remember songs they heard before birth.
A lullaby is also a connection between mother and child. At the end of the day both you and your baby can spend time together with your own special song. One day your child will remember the song you sang to her and find comfort in her memory. Even if you are self-conscious about your voice continue to sing. Your baby loves your voice simply because it's yours!
