Bottle-Feeding Your Baby

Most doctors and mothers agree that bottle-feeding a baby is a very pleasant experience. Babies grow normally and gain weight regardless of how they are fed, if fed correctly. The basics of bottle-feeding are simple. First of all choose a nipple that corresponds to your baby's eating habits. A baby who eats slowly needs a faster nipple, one with a larger hole. Other babies need slower nipples. Remember to discard used nipples after three months. Also, new bottle parts should be boiled before first use. And of course mothers should remember to wash their hands before they fix a bottle.

When it comes to choosing the kind of formula to feed your baby it is best to consult your physician. Often, the kinds of formula change as your child grows. Your doctor can best explain these changes and recommend the most appropriate brand for your baby. Finally, when feeding your baby hold them in a semi-upright position. Holding and feeding them horizontally promotes choking and creates the chance for ear infections. Don't worry about not bonding with your baby if you choose to bottle-feed. Your baby will still be happy, healthy and most importantly loved!
