From Work to Home

For working parents it can be difficult to take their minds off work and put them on family. Simply walking in the front door is not enough to begin a complete focus on your family. For a smooth transition into family time it is important to prepare your mind for the change. Try using the drive or commute home to mentally prepare yourself for your family. If you work at home you must set limits for work and family time. Try letting the answer do the work for a change! When you finally arrive home remember that your family has been waiting to see you.

When you walk in the door spend some time with your kids first. In the long run you will realize that laundry, dinner and the phone messages can wait because you have more important things to attend to. Disappearing as soon as you come home may lead your children to think you are angry with them or that you do not want to see them. Even if you have had a terrible day let your kids know. You may be surprised how a hug from your son or daughter can turn your day around! Considering that this transition happens Monday through Friday you should want to make it a smooth one. Learn to look forward to not only going home but to spending time with your family first thing!
