Creating A Father-Friendly Neighborhood
10 Things You Can Do
Reinstating Fatherhood
As A National Priority Will Be Accomplished
One Child And One Neighborhood At A Time
#1 Be A Committed Father
The single most important thing you can do to help your community and our nation become father-friendly is to be a committed and responsible father yourself. Good fathers make their children a top priority in their lives. This involves giving your children your time, keeping your commitments to your children, and accepting responsibility for ensuring that your children are healthy, well-fed, safely housed, and well-educated. A good father also listens to, values, and encourages his children. Become a living example of a good father and a mentor to others.
#2 Support The Mother Of Your Children
A good father understands that he has an obligation to ensure not only the well being of his children, but also the well being of the mother of his children. If you are married, commit to keeping your marriage strong and vital. Seek out periodic marriage enrichment programs and make time for you and your spouse to be alone together. If you are not married, it is still important to remain supportive and respectful of the mother of your children. Cooperate with each other regarding discipline, schooling, and establishing privileges. Remember, the best relationships are those in which each partner gives more than he or she expects to receive in return.
#3 Engage In Civic Outreach
Contact local civic, service, and charitable groups to see what they are doing to promote and encourage responsible fatherhood. Find out if your local YMCA, Rotary, Lions, or Kiwanis Club conducts programs to promote fatherhood in your community, or whether your local United Way is funding any local fatherhood programs. If no, encourage them to do so. Do the same at your place of worship. Put them in touch with us for more information and additional support.
