Is Morning for Your Baby Morning for You?

When your baby was born you could not get a full night's rest. Now that your baby is a toddler he is finally sleeping through the night but there is a new problem. His morning starts about two hours earlier than yours! What is a parent to do? You can work on this problem in several ways. Remember that children need around ten hours of sleep each night. You may want to try changing his bedtime, making it later. If this doesn't work you may have to accept the fact that you simply have a child who likes getting out of bed in the morning. If this is the case you should teach your child to safely occupy itself until you wake up.

A good idea is to try placing books by their bed and explain that if they wake up before you they should look at their books and wait for mommy to get up. Another thing to try is setting an alarm clock for them. This is not to wake them up; it's to let them know when it's okay to go in and see mommy and daddy. It is not always easy to reason with a two or three year old toddler but with a little creativity and patience on your part it may be possible to sleep a little longer in the morning!
