What to Expect

Babies and Head Bumps

All parents jump into action when their child falls. A baby learning to walk is going to fall down quite often. Sometimes that precious little head comes into contact with the corner of the coffee or end table. If this happens and a bump shows up there are things you can and should do. First of all watch for a change in your child's behavior. If they do not begin acting different after the fall they are probably okay. It is not bad to continue watching your baby for the next day or so. There are other signs to watch for and these mean you should call your pediatrician.

If your baby cuts her head look at the cut closely. If it is a deep cut or if your baby shows disorientation make sure to call your pediatrician right away. Also, if your child has trouble staying awake as she normally would you should call the doctor. Rely on your instincts most of all. As a parent you know your baby best so you will be the first one to notice a change in them after a fall.
