52 Dates For You & Your Mate By David & Claudia Arp Honeymoon Memory Date The Idea: Many people tell us that second honeymoons are better than first ones. We tend to agree. Take a few minutes and think back to your own wedding night and honeymoon. If you are like us, you can probably laugh about it now. We got married in the middle of our college years, during the Cuban Missile Crisis. We thought the Soviets were going to blow up the world before we had a chance to live together. So in two months with slight apprehension at our hurry but mostly with their blessings our families helped us plan and pull off a lovely church wedding. We just didn’t get around to planning our honeymoon! Back on the Hook: We have always been the spontaneous types. Apart from reservations the first night, we were definitely ad-libbing it with our honeymoon plans. So years later, when others suggested we recreate our honeymoon, we told them, “We’re not sure we really want to.” Besides, the motel in Gainesville, Georgia, where we spent our wedding night had been torn down long ago. We thought we were off the hook on this date – that is, until Claudia’s mom was put in the hospital in Gainesville and we went to see her.
