World Class Marriage
A definition:
A World Class Marriage is a dynamic and special relationship filled with love, caring, and trust grounded in the knowledge that both partners bring to that relationship a commitment to ways of living and loving that nurture the growth, happiness and satisfaction of both.
Introduction
In any relationship, the honeymoon lasts approximately 6-18 months. This honeymoon has nothing to do with getting married; it has to do with the excitement and joys of a new relationship. This affects how easy or difficult it is to overlook certain behaviors of the other person. You know the honeymoon is over when you realize that your partner is not perfect, that he or she has some annoying characteristics that you don’t like. This is when you realize that despite what may be many other wonderful characteristics, in some respects, your beloved can tick you off. This is when the real work of relationship building begins.
Sadly, many people don’t know how to build a successful relationship with a flawed human being. And the truth is, everyone who wishes to be in a relationship has to be able to build one with a flawed human being.
How to Have a World Class Marriage builds on the premise that all human beings are flawed and that all relationship have conflict. It is how well people express their needs; hear their partner’s needs, and how well they resolve conflicts together that determines how satisfying the relationship is. If you don’t handle these situations skillfully, the predictable outcome is frustration and resentment, which can ultimately mean the end of the relationship. When each partner is able to get his needs met in the relationship and conflicts are resolved so that each person is happy with the outcome, the most profound change takes place – satisfaction, happiness, closeness and relationship growth – a World Class Marriage.
