Engagement 101 - The Wedding Set the Date
The date you set, most of the time, depends on where you plan to hold the ceremony as well as the reception. It's important to decide where before an official date is set. If you don't have a place in mind please check out the Wedding and Reception sites listed here in your local area. Lovegevity's USBridalGuide is filled with nominated and/or recommended leading vendors in your area. Remember to set a date early enough to plan the ceremony and the celebration, both require attention to detail when planning the event of your dreams.
Introductions
You and your fiancé should arrange a meeting of your parents and future in-laws as soon as your news is announced. The groom's parents usually make the first move to become acquainted. Inviting them to dinner is usually a good place to start if you and your fiancé are making the arrangements.
Set the Budget
Try to be realistic when setting a budget. Traditionally parents contribute to the cost of the wedding, so this should be discussed with all parties involved. Remember to account for every aspect of the event, such as head count, gratuity, tax, and miscellaneous. By sitting down with everyone involved it can be decided who will contribute to what and how much. This will give you a realistic idea of how much you will need or when to cut corners to stay within your budget.
