Food keeps love alive: an interview with Chef Jacques Haeringer
By Abby Horton

You had a beautiful wedding and an incredible honeymoon – but you’re at home now, together, which is great but not as exciting and romantic, is it? What can you do to keep the spark alive? You can cook for one another! “Cooking for that special someone is a way to keep the honeymoon going,” says Jacques Haeringer, author of “Two for Tonight.

Jacques will be giving cooking demonstrations based on the recipes in his book at the upcoming Wedding Styles bridal show (www.weddingstylesshow.com) in San Francisco in September. He says that yes, food is sexy, eating it together even more so, but preparing it for, and often with, your special someone is even better. “Bring them into the kitchen,” says Jacques. “Let them watch you prepare the food.” They’ll be able to see how much you love them by how much time you spend cooking just for them.

His book, “Two for Tonight” is really where the concept for his involvement in the Wedding Styles show comes from. It’s full of romantic, delicious – and simple – recipes. As for what he’ll be demonstrating at the show he says “There’s plenty of recipes that are quick and easy-made and I’m going to emphasize these.” All of the recipes are meant for two people and if you do prepare them together, try Jacques’ suggestion “wear only aprons!”

Each chapter centers around a specific part of the day or a special event. For example, there are the “Breakfast in Bed” and “Love in the Afternoon” chapters. There is also the “Celebrations” chapter, which is full of recipes to celebrate each of those special milestones in your marriage. One of the most important things to Jacques is the ingredients – they’re completely nutritious. “Whole food is what you should be preparing. Junk food is junk food,” he says.

“I’m excited about going to the show. We want to give people an opportunity to see dinner doesn’t have to be a dredge … it can be an opportunity for romance,” says Jacques. “Cooking for your special someone is like a gift. Food is the energy that keeps love going.”
