A perky young woman, call her Dale, was so delighted over meeting her knight that she was concerned over how to keep him. Her narrative reveals much of the knight from the female side.
Dale: I met the most wonderful fellow the other night. I felt such assurance from him that he would be there for me even though we only just met. Yes, he made me feel pretty, but a lot of men do that. But he also made me feel like what I value can be important to him. It's not easy to meet a man who makes you feel that way!
AFB: All this is good news. So what's the issue?
Dale: Well, he really made an impression. And, you know, I want to make sure it goes right with him.
AFB: You're quite attractive and in a number of ways. So why are you concerned?
Dale: Because I don't often meet a man like this.
AFB: You strike me as having good judgment. I don't see cause for concern.
Dale: You're not getting it! I'm ready to give the store away to get this one!
AFB: Oh, I see, you're afraid you'll be swept away and do something rash.
Dale: Uh huh. Too bad you're not a woman. Then you would know what it feels like to be with a man that you feel you really can trust if he would only become interested in you.
AFB: So you feel he would go the distance for you, maybe even put himself before you, yes?
Dale: He's strong and romantic too. He makes light of things that concern me and unsettle me. I feel I can give everything to him, including my cares, because it feels like he wants to care.
AFB: Sounds like you picked a winner.
Dale: I told you! And I want to keep him before another gal swoops him up. (pause) What should I do?
AFB: Well, after you calm down, I would remind myself that every knight wants his reward. But don't make it too easy for him.
Dale: That means I will have to put my head before my heart. But I'll do it, at least for a while!
