In today's competitive world of wedding and event planning, organizations, venues and vendors need wedding and event professionals who have an insider’s view and understanding of how their specific business contributes to the delivery of a successful wedding or social event.
Therefore, programs that provide a glimpse into "life in the real world" are critical. To complement the academic experience of students, we offer an exciting externship experience for graduates of LWPI.
Externships
Each externship is anywhere from 5 days to 4 weeks. An externship is a shadowing experience, not a job. Students do not receive academic credit or pay for externships beyond the processing fees listed below. Externships can lead to internships.
Students are responsible for all expenses related to the externship, including travel, accommodations (if any), meals, etc. Externs are not chosen by the sponsors themselves, but are matched by the LWPI Externship Program Staff based on the student’s needs, interest and availability.
Each course of the externship programs includes a field placement component that encompasses three aspects: |

- Observation of including hands-on, immersion in, the day-to-day workings of a participating organization
- Professional interaction between the student and the field placement supervisor and staff
- Involvement in industry specific services, common service specific challenges and the resolution of those challenges
Requirements
- Must be a graduate of LWPI’s Wedding & Event Certification Program
- Chapter 6.1 Assignment completed and submitted as part of your application
- Must be committed to the time required by each externship
Fees
- There is a one-time, non-refundable externship application fee of $95.00
- Additional fees: Each industry specific externship request has a $25.00 processing fee. Each externship within the same industry has a $10.00 processing fee
- For example if you apply for an externship at a venue, florist, and photographer your additional fee is $75.00 for the 3 industry specific requests. Additionally, if you apply for a florist externship and choose three florist company sites the fee is $30.00 not $75.00
- Each externship has a minimum of one site per industry, however it can have as many as 10 per industry. In cases where a student wants to rotate through several sites within the same industry the limit is 4 per one month rotation. There is an additional $10.00 processing fee for additional sites within a specific industry
Application
To apply, you must submit online through Lovegevity’s Career Center a separate application for each externship of your choice consisting of:
- Your resume
- A different application cover letter for each. Work experience or coursework in areas related by industry to the externship are not required.
- Your application letter should explain why you think the particular externship would benefit your career exploration process.
Please provide two professional references. Do not list friends or relatives. Include a name, address, length and type of relationship, and a phone number for each reference.
